Hunter Creek is Sagebrush’s Creek:
Sagebrush is the official trailhead sponsor for Hunter Creek in Reno. On Saturday, April 26, we’ll host our 2nd Annual Hunter Creek Trail Clean-Up. This is a very popular spot with local citizens and a great way to preserve an important fishery in the Truckee Meadows. Lunch is on us for all of your hard work that day! Work starts at 9:00 a.m. and ends around noon.
Hunter Creek flows from high in the Mount Rose Wilderness and connects with the Truckee River just downstream of Mayberry Park. The creek has an abundant population of brook trout, a few rainbow trout, and maybe even some Lahontan cutthroat that have survived from fingerling plantings many years ago. The fishing is next to impossible due the healthy vegetation the lines the banks, but a dedicated small-stream angler will find plenty of opportunities about a mile from the trailhead. If you enjoy hiking, the falls pictured above can be reached at the end of the 3-mile trail. Sturdy shoes are a must on this trail due to the intermittent scree slopes that must be crossed, but overall the trail is relatively easy on its climb to the falls.
